Here’s the story…
I plan to retire from the traditional world of work on July 1st, 2025. That may seem like a long time from now but I am just barely over 40 and it would be early, to say the least. Sound crazy? The way things are trending these days I would typically be 70 by the time I would naturally do that and by industry standards, I would have some money to retire with but no guarantee that it be enough. While I continue to work at spending less, making more and squirreling away as much as possible I still wonder if working the way I am right now, I can do it for 30 more years and still have enough energy to enjoy retirement or even be able to walk at that point (oh the years of basketball still haunt me). All that makes me think about two things: 1. How can I make even more so that life is secure? 2. How can I speed it up so I can actually enjoy all that life has provided for me and my family? Especially when I think about how many friends and family have gone too soon. They may have left behind a trail of love and a stamp of this world for their good works. Can I say the same?If I go tomorrow I would be leaving behind a beautiful family and a ton of work. There is a lot more good to be done on this earth before my time is due and I would love to be able to spend that much more time with my family as I already have been working way too much just to make ends meet. In order to make sure I can still provide enough money for my family, I need to be able to offset my expenses with enough income that will allow me to step away from my job. One of three things needs to happen before I can actually retire: 1. I need to have enough money saved so I can pull 4% out every year and have that cover my expenses. 2. I need to generate enough money in a side hustle to cover those expenses. 3. I need to win the lottery. Since I never play the lottery, # 3 is out. Doing just the very basic math on pulling out 4% a year, I would need close to $3 Million saved, in order to retire. That is unlikely even in the best of side hustles to be able to save that much in such a short time or even ever. The only option is #2. It means I need to keep working but I need to work with a different purpose and method. I actually love my job but it will not provide for me beyond just getting by. I have no problem working, in fact, I am likely addicted to it but I need to work smarter and develop some new streams of income in order to reach the goal. Considering what we need to live on I need to generate $243 a day. Any day I cannot do that puts me at a disadvantage for the next. The good news is that any more I make in a given day will also help sustain the dream.
Here starts the game:
The Goal I have 2410 days, at the time of launch of this blog, to develop a recurring income of $243 a day. The Rules- Must be recurring or easily achieved per month forever.
- Cannot be a cost-cutting solution.
- Must be location independent.
- Cannot be related directly with my current job. Must be new business.
